It might not feel like Spring out there but it has arrived nonetheless and its time to start re-thinking your wardrobe.  I wouldn't rush to put away my winter coats just yet but its certainly time to give some thought to the new looks of the season.... Now the last thing Im saying is to run out and spend a fortune on all thats on offer but by shopping carefully and investing in a few key pieces you can really update your wardrobe (and not have to hide your credit card bill either!). None of us are likely to love every trend so examine the ones that you like and invest in a jacket from one, a belt from another etc.  Five or six strong pieces will give your wardrobe some real clout!

For those of you who don't believe in sacrificing comfort for fashion there is a gorgeous new style in boots out there and River Island have a great version in the Hannah boot as seen below - looks great with skinny jeans tucked in as seen on Alexa Chung and Jessica Alba and equally fab with a pretty skirt or dress. These boots will be absolutely everywhere soon and they'll take you through the summer as well.

Weatherwise its always a tricky time to know how to dress - say what you like about wintry conditions but at least we knew how to dress every day - layers, layers and more layers!  Now though you can set off in the morning admiring the blue sky and sunshine only to battle the wind and rain on your lunchbreak! Stick with the layers for another while yet and for the next couple of months or so a lightweight waterproof parka could be your very best friend.

Lastly enjoy the days ahead - the temperature is on the up, the days are getting longer, Easter break isn't far off and lets be honest if we got through the tough time that was last year - we'll get through anything! Happy shopping!

Clean & Simple

The first trend and its my absolute favourite of the season is a mix of soft and nude colours in simple unfussy cuts. If this is your cup of tea then check out the gorgeous white biker jacket from Miss Selfridge or if you're looking for something more girly then have a look at this beautiful pale pink lace dress from Dorothy Perkins.

Patterns and Prints

In total contrast to the aforementioned we have major splashes of colour and design here. Spring has sprung so we can expect to see flowers everywhere and we will with this look. French Connection have loads of fab floral pieces this season such as this beautiful bustier you can see below. One important note to keep in mind - only ever one pattern or print at a time!

Country Casual

Pinafore dresses, gingham prints and pretty embellishment create a really wearable look thats more girly than anything we've seen for years. This so takes me back to my youth as the pinafore dresses were the biggest thing in the early 80's.  I really like this look but for those of us who wore it back then I think we should choose our pieces carefully - there's a fine line here between looking bang on trend and hippy schoolteacher! Check out Topshop for some of these gorgeous girly clothes.

Game On

You could be forgiven for thinking that this means your gym gear is now in vogue but that is definitely not the case. Its more about subtle influences from different areas of sport such as surfing, skating, american football and scuba. Now although these looks made a great impact on the ramps they are most definitely better worn one piece at a time. The american football style 'leggings' make a refreshing change from the full or calf length ones that have been around for the last year or two and are far more wearable with tops that don't go past your waistline. Make sure to take a look at BT2 who have some fantastic catwalk inspired looks this season.

Military

This is one trend that never really goes away for very long.  I guess it stays around because it delivers on so many levels - smart, edgy and adds drama to any outfit. Investing in a coat or jacket will be money well spent as you can probably expect it to be on trend several times over the next decade.  Now if that isn't value for money I don't know what is! Check out the gorgeous structured military look from Warehouse.
