In association with Ten42 Productions

THURS 8 & FRI 9 JULY, 7PM / SAT 10 JULY 3PM.
Main Auditorium // €16 / €12 Conc / €10 (Under 16s)
A zany medley of circus acts, comedy, and electrifying music! It’s a high voltage circus troupe … It’s a dynamite rock band… It’s six guys … Armed with a bicycle, a table, a barrel, a board, a ladder and some balls! Six eccentric characters meet on stage and try to outdo one another in a contest of increasingly outrageous antics. An hour with ‘Les Parfaits Inconnus’ is an hour of sheer delight, with comedy, acrobatics, ‘unbalancing’ acts, juggling, and music that will rock your soul. Laughter and thrills guaranteed!
Saturday 10th:

Eddi Reader

8PM Main Auditorium // €22 / €18 conc.
Eddi Reader grew up in Glasgow and Irvine, Scotland and it was in those towns that she learned to use music as a vehicle for communicating with others through busking and performing at the local folk clubs. In the early 1980s, Eddi travelled around Europe with circus and performance artists before moving to London where she quickly became a sought after session vocalist. She famously harmonized with Annie Lennox touring with the Eurythmics, after her time with successful punk outfit ‘Gang of Four’. It was the short-lived but warmly remembered Fairground Attraction that really brought her into the limelight and to the attention of a much wider audience. The single ‘Perfect’ and parent album ‘First of a Million Kisses’ both topped the British charts. ‘Love Is The Way’, is Eddi Reader’s seventh solo album, released in March 2009 on Rough Trade Records. Produced by Eddi herself, it is her best work so far. Recorded in a matter of days with her band in Glasgow, the record has captured the award winning songstress in her finest form. Songs written with her long time writing partner Boo Hewerdine, songs written with her life partner John Douglas (The Trashcan Sinatras) and a song from the magical Irish singer/songwriter Declan O’Rourke as well as a rare Brian Wilson composition, an Eddi/Fleetwood Mac ‘mash up’, and a song from Dublin songwriter Jack Maher. From the traditional to the contemporary, Eddi brings to joyous life all forms of song. Her taste in co-writers, writers, songs and players is impeccable and anything with her name on it is guaranteed musical treasure. Whilst the perfection of her technique is widely acknowledged, what sets Reader apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance; her ability not only to move the listener but to connect her experience to that of her audience. Her passion and instinct move people in a way reminiscent of those who have influenced her work. Her rare blend of meltingly true vocals and towering romanticism combine with an astute and pragmatic nature to make her a unique and powerful figure in contemporary British music. She has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers.
Thursday 15th:

Faulty Towers – the Dining Experience

Saturday 17th:

Interactive Theatre Australia, in association with Ten42 Productions

8PM Betelnut Cafe // €45 / €40 Conc (includes 3 course meal)
After a sell out six week tour of Ireland in 2009 ‘Faulty Towers … The Dining Experience’ is back. Basil, Sybil and Manuel return to serve you dinner and a feast of comic delights, some familiar, some off the cuff but all with a ‘Faulty’ seasoning and a guarantee to keep you laughing all the way to the desert. Basil is manic, Sybil domineering, and Manuel – of course – is hopelessly language-challenged. Everything that can go wrong, does in some beautifully controlled chaos. Just don’t mention the war! ‘Faulty Towers … The Dining Experience’ has been winning fans and accolades at Edinburgh, Melbourne and Adelaide Festivals for the last three years. Featuring all the best gags and a great meal, the show is a loosely-scripted, pitch-perfect '13th episode' of the TV series which develops the characters made famous by John Cleese, Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs.

Saturday 31st:

Michael McSwiney

GROUND FLOOR GALLERY Michael McSwiney portrays a world of abandoned, often threatening panoramas of land and sea. A sense of elusiveness is central to these mood-orientated images, where through alienating colours and strong atmospheric effects, these paintings portray an unnerving picture of nature. McSwiney (b. Cork 1969) began his studies at CCAD. He graduated with an Honours Degree in Fine Art from NCAD in 1991. For several years Michael traveled and worked in many countries such as Denmark, India and Egypt and from 2000-2008 was based in Oslo, Norway, where he was awarded grants from the Arts Council of Norway and the Norwegian Culture Department. His paintings are represented in both public and private collections in Denmark, Norway and Ireland. Michael and his family returned to live in Ireland in 2008.
Saturday 31st:

Magnhild Opdøl

FIRST FLOOR GALLERY This new series of work is an investigation into the nature of death and the emotions that it reveals. Everything has its’ time, after death all that remains is documentation or the memory of the person, the place or object. But even if the imagery has dark elements, the beauty of them becomes more evident. Pencil and paper is for Magnhild Opdøl a pure and poetic way to approach new matters, allowing her to get close to the subjects that she works with. Each drawing is a finished piece, some of which get developed into objects. Magnhild Opdøl (1980) was born in Norway, and is now living and working in Dublin. Since graduating from the National College of Art and Design, with an MFA in 2007 she has been widely exhibited both in Ireland and internationally. Recent exhibitions in 2008/2009 include: Forty Years of Norwegian Painting 40/40 at Stenersenmueet Oslo; solo exhibitions in Gallery LNM, Oslo and Beginning With the End of the Tale, the Lab, Dublin. She has been awarded residencies at both The Red Stables, DCC and Temple Bar Gallery & Studios.
