28/11/2003 - Gerry Ryan to Launch Giving Tree Appeal at Blanchardstown Centre's Shopping & Entertainment Evening
2FM SuperStar Gerry Ryan will launch Junior Chamber Castleknock's annual Giving Tree Appeal at The Blanchardstown Centre's Christmas Shopping & Entertainment Evening on Monday, 1st December, 2003, the first evening of late night shopping for Christmas at the Centre.
This is a return visit to the Centre for Gerry who has launched the Giving Tree Appeal over the two last years. So impressed was Gerry with the idea of the Giving Tree that he readily agreed to lend his support again this year. He will be joined by 2FM colleague Larry Gogan, who will broadcast live from the Centre between 5.00pm and 6.00pm.
The Christmas Shopping & Entertainment Evening at The Blanchardstown Centre is always a special night and this year is no exception. Gerry Ryan will launch the Giving Tree Appeal at 6.00pm and former Eurovision winner Linda Martin, currently starring in RTE's You're a Star Programme will make a special guest appearance at 6.15pm. In addition to Linda, other musical treats during the evening include Dublin Gospel Choir, the Three Sopranos and Blanchardstown Brass Band. Fr Dan Joe O'Mahony will be joined by Coolmine Community School Choir for the annual Blessing of the Crib at 7.00pm.
"The Christmas Shopping & Entertainment Evening is our opportunity to thank customers, and in particular the people of West Dublin for their support throughout the year. It is always a very festive occasion enjoyed by staff and visitors alike", said Mercy Prendergast, Marketing Manager, The Blanchardstown Centre.
Now in its sixth year, the Giving Tree Appeal brings Christmas cheer to families by ensuring that no child is without a visit from Santa Claus on Christmas morning. Shoppers are asked to a card from the tree and buy a gift for the child named on their card. These gifts are collected by Junior Chamber from the Centre Information Desk. Over 20,000 toys have been collected and distributed by the Giving Tree Appeal to families throughout West Dublin since its inception. St. Vincent de Paul, St. Joseph's Hospital Clonsilla, Chernobyl Children and Friends for Friends, the charity which helps children with HIV, are just some of the charities that have benefited from the Giving Tree Appeal.
From December 1st , the Blanchardstown Centre will be open Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 9.00pm. Ends.
